Brief History of Shorinji Kempo
Shorinji Kempo was founded by So Doshin in 1947, just after WWII in Japan. So Doshin, or KAISO ("founder") had spent seventeen years in China before and during the war as an operative for the Japanese government. Due to the nature of his work, he came in to contact with many secret organizations, the members of whom taught him several Chinese martial arts. Through his contacts he also had the chance to visit the famous Shaolin Temple.
Shorinji Kempo was started in a small port town called Tadotsu, on the
island of Shikoku in Japan. This is where the HONBU, or main headquarters
are still located today. However, it can trace its roots back to the Shaolin
Temple in China, from where it takes its name, and from India where the
techniques it is based on originated.

What is Shorinji Kempo?
Shorinji Kempo is a martial art founded
in Japan. Kempo techniques differ principle from ordinary others Japan's martial arts.
Shorinji Kempo has two major kind techniques: first, punching/kicking/blocking/etc. techniques (called "GOHO"), second, locks/throws/escapes/etc. techniques (called "JUHO"). Much emphasis is also placed on the spiritual side of training in Shorinji Kempo, gradings to advance in level include essays to be written beforehand on set topics about Shorinji Kempo's teachings, and the examination itself is comprised of a written section as well as a practical section.
Brief History of Indonesia Shorinji Kempo
Shorinji Kempo first timecame to Indonesia brought by returning Indonesia student who studied in Japan, They are Indra Kartasasmita, Ginanjar Kartasasmita (Minister of National Development Plan), and Utin Syaraz, in 1959 and founded Association Kempo Indonesia (PERKEMI) in 1966. PERKEMI is member of WSKO (World Shorinji Kempo Organisation) and member of KONI (National Indonesia Olympic Commite). Shorinji Kempo has been competition in PON (Indonesia Multievent Competion) since 1981.
Now, Indonesia have the largest kenshi in the world outside Japan. Indonesia have 27 main branch (PengDa) .in 27 province and each main branch have branches (PengCab) and each branches have at least two dojo.
